The Contra Costa Commission for Women and Girls (CCCWG) has elected a new leadership team for 2026, naming Marilyn Cachola Lucey as Chair, Nakenya Allen as Vice Chair, and Dena Acosta-Beere as Treasurer during its March 24 meeting.
Representing Asian and Pacific Islander, African American, and Latina communities, the three leaders bring distinct perspectives, professional experiences, and a shared commitment to advancing opportunities for women and girls throughout Contra Costa County.
Their election reflects the importance of diverse representation in civic leadership and the power of collaboration and solidarity across communities. While women and girls face challenges shaped by different cultural, economic, and social experiences, many of the barriers to safety, economic security, educational opportunity, and equitable treatment intersect. Working across communities creates opportunities to build broader coalitions, identify shared priorities, and develop more inclusive policy recommendations.
Lucey, who represents Supervisorial District 2, brings decades of experience in public policy, nonprofit leadership, education, and community advocacy. Her professional background includes serving as National Executive Director of Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA), working in the California State Assembly, and holding leadership positions in the California State PTA and numerous regional advisory bodies.
"Each of us brings different experiences and perspectives to this work, and that makes us stronger," said Lucey. "Solidarity doesn't mean our communities face exactly the same challenges. It means recognizing where our interests intersect, standing alongside one another, and working together to make sure women and girls across Contra Costa County have the opportunity to thrive."
Together, the leadership team will guide the Commission's work advising the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on issues affecting the economic security, safety, health, education, and overall well-being of women and girls.
Priorities include strengthening the Commission's effectiveness, expanding community engagement, developing opportunities for young women and girls to participate in civic leadership, and building relationships with organizations serving diverse communities throughout the county.
The leadership team also seeks to strengthen the connection between community experiences and public policy, ensuring that the voices of women and girls from different backgrounds inform the Commission's recommendations.
